Idol Newbie
This is my first season ever of watching American Idol (mostly don't like the song choices AT ALL), but I kind of got sucked in this year out of sheer boredom. Nothing else on the boob tube spoke to me in that time slot. I have to say, I'm enjoying Adam Lambert (or Glambert as they call him on TWoP) quite a lot. I've always been a sucker for guy liner and the boy rocks it big time. Without him, I doubt I'd have stuck around for more than an episode or two.Yeah, he's over the top, screamy, theatrical and all the other stuff that Simon says about him, but I have to give props to anyone who dares add a Middle Eastern/serpentine-ish flair to an iconic C&W song like Ring of Fire, especially on a show like Idol. Over the top and overwrought doesn't begin to describe it. Loved it.
Then he goes and performs Mad World by Tears for Fears, and even though it's the Donnie Darko version, I give him mad (!) props for choosing one of my beloved eighties songs from one of my beloved eighties bands. Floved it.
Last night he gave an electro-clash edge to another iconic song, Born to be Wild, and I kind of dug that, too.
Outside Idol, I'm not sure I'd be that big of a fan because I've a feeling our musical tastes wouldn't mesh over the long haul. But within the confines of a show like this, he's a breath of fresh air.
