I'm back!!!

Hi All--

Well, after hibernating for nearly two months to finish my current thriller, THE WHISPERING ROOM (MIRA Books, March, 2009), we got slammed by Hurricane Ike. We lost power around 1:00 in the morning and it stayed off for about ten days. The worst of the wind seemed to hit around 4:00 in the morning (though you couldn't prove this by me because by that time, I was hiding in a closet--very scary storm, the worst I've ever been through).

Next day, I hightailed it to an apartment in San Antonio, which is in a very cool building downtown within walking distance of the Riverwalk. So I can't complain about not having power since thousands of people had it so much worse than me. At least I had someplace to go and a home to come back to.

I actually got a lot of writing done during the exile. I didn't have Internet access and the TV reception sucked. Turned out to be the best thing for me. I finished nearly 100 pages on a first-person paranormal suspense I've been working on between contracted books. So I'm psyched about that.

It didn't really hit me just how bad Ike was until I got to San Antonio and all the freeways had flashing signs warning people not to travel to Houston. Kind of broke my heart.
