News

I have an interview in the September issue of Mouth Full of Bullets, a cool e-zine for mystery and suspense lovers. Check it out!

Also, my friend Vince Liaguno, author of the fabulous horror novel The Literary Six, has launched Dark Scribe Magazine for the horror/suspense/thriller aficionado. It's a terrific site that includes interviews, reviews, and book trailers from your favorite authors. You can also read a review of The Dollmaker. Head on over when you have a spare moment.

Clive Owen at Fashion Week

I'm in deadline hell for the next few days so I'll just leave you with this photo I lifted from here.

In the words of someone near and dear to me: Oh, my dear sweet lord.

Control

This is my must-see movie of the year!

I’ve been a huge Joy Division fan for decades so I’m really looking forward to the movie Control (10/10/2007), which focuses on the band’s enigmatic and tragic frontman, Ian Curtis. Control marks the feature film directorial debut of photographer and visual artist Anton Corbijn who has had a long-standing creative collaboration with many influential bands, including another of my favorites, Depeche Mode.

(A bit of trivia: Joy Division borrowed their name from the prostitution wing of a Nazi concentration camp in the 1965 novel The House of Dolls.)

Clive Owen: Uber Cool Anti-Hero

Okay, this is my third post on Clive Owen in a couple of weeks, but I’m really not obsessed with him or anything. Really. He just happens to be the source of a lot of Internet chatter lately. Cinematical has done a piece on anti-heroes in cinema, and here’s what they say about Clive:

Clive Owen (in Shoot ‘Em Up) is making Bugs Bunny look all sorts of tough and cool. He banters. He sexes up the ladies. He handles guns like a pro. Heck, he even tries to buy them with food stamps.

I don’t know about you, but they had me at uber.

If you've got a few minutes, check out Clive's badassness in the BMW short film Beat The Devil directed by Tony Scott and featuring an aging James Brown, the godfather of soul, looking to renegotiate his contract with the prince of darkness (Gary Oldman). This is beyond uber cool, my friends, this is freakin' awesome!

Mickey Mouse Goes Goth

What fresh hell is this when the Happiest Place on Earth plays host to the saddest people on Earth? When it seems as if the Haunted Mansion has exploded and the 999 happy ghosts have gained corporeal form? When Thunder Mountain is invaded by gloomies swathed in capes and robes and knee-high patent-leather skull-buckle boots?

It’s like Halloween in August. It’s like night, but in the day.

Why it’s...Bats Day at Disneyland!

Okay, I'm not but my book is, which is almost just as good. Here is the French cover of The Dollmaker, courtesy of Joelle from MySpace.
