Recommended Weekend Reading

I've always been fascinated by dreams, and lately I've been immersing myself in young adult novels. So it's little wonder that Lisa McMann's WAKE captured my attention the minute I started seeing the cover pop up on the Internet. And what a cover! Done in black and hues of purplish blue, it's dark, dreamy and seductive. This is one cover that's pretty indicative of what's waiting for the reader inside--a story that's part mystery, part fantasy and part romance told in spare, dream-like prose.

Here's the Amazon description:

Not all dreams are sweet.

For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie's seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.

She can't tell anybody about what she does -- they'd never believe her, or worse, they'd think she's a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control.

Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant....

That premise is freakin' awesome and the book doesn't disappoint. I read it in two sittings and enjoyed every minute of it.
