Highgate Cemetery
I find old cemeteries strangely beautiful, and the Highgate Cemetery in London has to be one of the most eerily gorgeous places in the world."The Victorian attitude toward death and its presentation led to the creation of a wealth of Gothic tombs and buildings, and the grounds are lush with old-growth trees, shrubbery and wild flowers that are a haven for birds and small animals. The Egyptian Avenue and the Circle of Lebanon feature tombs, vaults and winding paths dug into the hillsides." (source)
Oh, the stories that are conjured by this photo! Highgate is a place I really must visit before I die (pun intended).
And to top it off, the cemetery is well known for its occult past, being the site of the alleged Highgate Vampire. More about that later...

One of my upcoming books opens in Highgate! I thought it was such an interesting place!
Kim, that's awesome! I read an interesting article about these two American authors who work as part-time tour guides. They're both writing or have written books that feature Highgate Cemetery. That's really getting into your research, isn't it? It's also pretty cool that they didn't even know about each other for a long time.
I wonder if I could get my husband to let me take off for the summer to be a tour guide?! Hmmmm. I think the place is just beautiful. When my husband and I were just dating, and in college, he did a paper about old cemeteries, and we went to the oldest cemetery in Dallas. It was run down, and sadly, vandals had torn some things up, but ... it was really beautiful, and peaceful too.
